This table is another commissioned piece for The University of Illinois at Chicago, and is a continuation of our endeavors into using salvaged and locally sourced materials for commercial projects. For this table which will soon have matching benches, we used a lovely wood from the Kentucky coffee tree. The color is a natural rich orange, with beautiful red and purple mineral stains. We accentuated the natural color by using a simple tung oil and carnuba wax finish and sanded the surface up to 400 grit.
To integrate this organic design into the brutalist architecture of UIC, we detailed the sides and ends of the slab with extreme geometric facets, and were delighted with the results. Let us know what you think!
