Strand Design wins AIA Chicago Design Competition

"Designers were challenged to create a design concept using a single, standard sized, wood hollow core door. Mechanical and adhesive fasteners could be utilized in the design, along with door hardware and finishes. Concept materials were to be found at the Rebuilding Exchange, with the exception of adhesive fasteners."

We are very pleased to have won this contest with our "Core System" table! The Core System table was designed to use a modified hollow core door, as well as salvaged "strut channel" components that are frequently found in the scrap bin during building reconstruction. Our goal was to create a beautiful design using salvaged materials, that didn't look at all as though it used salvaged materials.

We also sell this table design using beautiful solid urban lumber tops. See our shop for more details.

Thank you to the jury:
Craig Cernak, AIA, Archi/Build Group, Inc.
Eileen Pedersen, Perkins + Will
Melissa Mazariegos, UrbanWorks, Ltd.

Thank you again to Sam Rosen for the lovely photography.
